Position Overview:
This position to be located in Livonia, MI or Evansville, IN. - This position is responsible for providing comprehensive packaging engineering direction and support to Accuride Corporation including all North American and Global Business Units. The position provides leadership and technical direction in all aspects of product packaging including design, development, production implementation, and continuous improvement. The position will develop and implement optimum packaging solutions for both domestic and global markets.

Position Requirements:

Required Skills, Education, and Experience

  • BS degree in Packaging Engineering, Packaging Technology, Packaging Science or related technical discipline.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in packaging design and implementation.
  • Experience working in global markets.
  • Demonstrated ability and experience and a track record of accomplishments in the design, development, and implementation of product packaging in the automotive, commercial vehicle, wheel end component, or related industry.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of packaging engineering design principles and packaging testing and evaluation procedures.
  • Strong analytical and computer skills including proficiency with Mircosoft software applications.
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple projects.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills.

Principal Accountabilities

  1. Develop packaging solutions that optimize packaging material costs; packaging labor efficiency; preservation of product quality; shipping and export cost efficiency; and mitigation of environmental impact of packaging material disposal.
  2. Develop, document, and maintain packaging specifications.
  3. Manage packaging engineering projects from the specification development, quotation, vendor selection, design, and production implementation phases; complete technical assessment.
  4. Propose, develop, and implement product packaging continuous improvement initiatives.
  5. Provide technical assistance to internal and external customers and suppliers to resolve product packaging related issues.
  6. Research, propose, develop, and implement the application of new technologies to drive the continuous improvement in cost and effectiveness of product packaging.
  7. Analyze new product designs and recommend optimum packaging solutions to product commercialization teams.
  8. Analyze customer packaging specifications and ensure compliance.
  9. Prepare capital expenditure requests for purchase of packaging materials including analysis of project justification, return on investment, and business case recommendation.
